this article on jezebel inspired me to share.
here are some stats for you:
– 2 of the 3 closest women relatives in my life were raped
– i would estimate that about 80% of my previous girlfriends were at one point raped and/or molested
– i have been groped by two different male doctors. now i will only see female doctors if given the choice
– i was groped at a club, and I WAS KICKED OUT for kneeing him in the balls
– my high school best friend was date raped, no charges were pressed
-my college roommate was date raped, no charges were pressed
– in a restaurant in peoria, a drunk asshole screamed that he would “kill that fucking dyke” (me) when i refused to let him sit down at my table.  the policeman who arrived on scene refused to arrest him and asked ME WHAT I SAID TO MAKE HIM SO ANGRY.  when i took his badge number he told me to go ahead and call his lieutenant – and promised nothing would be done about it.  he was right.
those are just a FEW of my stories, and there are dozens more.  this from a woman who, as a lesbian, is rarely in the realm of danger (meaning I don’t date men or spend much time in hetero environments.)
super scary statistics given those parameters, don’t you think?
here is how i live my life as a result of these sobering facts:
-i never let a man walk behind me, even in broad daylight.
-i keep a gun by my bedside, despite wishing they would be banned in this country.
-i NEVER let another woman walk to her car or home alone.  ever.
and finally, i assume that every man i meet is a potential rapist until i get to know him.  yes, every single one.
i don’t want to hear one more complaint that we are overreacting to this epidemic of misogyny and male entitlement.
and now that we are finally start to talk about it, how do we actually change it?

spring renew

it’s been a minute!  i almost forgot about this page – that’s what social media will do i suppose.

it’s spring, and i’m back in business again.  i just had to share.
a few months back, i was contacted by linda schlapp, the director for Global Volunteers LGBT program.  linda pulled me into this fabulous organization’s vortex and we are working to get me and lauren neal on a vacation this year to film the amazing work that they do.  the lgbt program is brand spanking new, and she’s trying to get the word out.  consider doing something good for someone else, and take an amazing vacation that’s tax deductible!  we’re hoping to join the greece trip in august or perhaps equador or costa rica in july.  contact linda if you’d like to join our trip and be a part of this amazing project with us!
if you know me at all, you know that i am loath to ask for money for projects.  i, like many of you ladies in our community, have been overwhelmed with numerous kickstarter and indie gogo campaigns.  sadly, without our own lesbian medici network, we middle class bums have to ask for handouts to get our projects made.  help my fabulous talented friend dalila ali rajah fund her directing debut!  $5, $10…it all helps.  you help continue to make lesbian cinema happen, and i finally get to play a drug addict.  we all win.
i honestly don’t know anyone more qualified to talk about vaginas.
but seriously, join me on saturday may 17th.  i’ve done this show dozens of times, but eve ensler’s masterpiece is still relevant and much needed in this world.  all proceeds go to the VDay Foundation  – a global movement to end violence against women and girls.
i’m baaaaack.  yep, after a fun guest star turn alongside number’s star david krumholtz, the girls rewarded me with a recurring character for season 2.  detective bennett (no joke, that’s her name) is back, and she’s meaner than ever. except when it comes to sunshine…tune in this summer for some hot lesbo action with rakefet abergel and company.   we have a private jet!
more fun stuff:
i’ve become very close with singer/actress haviland stillwell this year.  check out haviland’s new album – spark.  look out for a music video featuring yours truly coming later this year…
erin foley FINALLY had me on her podcast “sports without balls.”  what did i talk about?  the colts draft of course.  and horse racing, and “accidentally” releasing my own sex tape.  check it here.
and lastly, if you haven’t caught it yet (and how could you miss it?) check out my fabulous series Second Shot.  all three episodes are available for your viewing pleasure.
i promise to post more often.  this blog thing just seems so 2009, doesn’t it?

here we go again…

hello my friends,

it is that time again, the time where i fulfill my side of this crazy bargain we struck at some point in the last few years and i offer up something from my creative soul.  although i’m not really one to use the words creative soul in a sentence very often, this time it certainly applies.
most of you know by now that i had major life change in january of this year.  i can say with all honesty that having this creative outlet got me through some of the toughest days.  i am so incredibly proud of this project, and was lucky enough to once again have the privilege of working alongside some of my closest friends.  none of this would have been possible without the hard work and talent of dozens of people, who once again, threw caution to the wind and did another project with me.
my favor well has certainly run dry – i have tapped the creative genius of all my amazingly gifted friends too many times to count.  yet, they all showed up again…for little or no money, to help create this wonderful world called Dot’s Hole.  i am humbled and honored to have had the opportunity to make this project with these people, and am beyond grateful for the generous investment of one person who helped to make it all possible to begin this journey.  my main collaborator, annie price, jumped out of her very successful mainstream career for a few months to direct and executive produce with me.  i hope i didn’t scare her away from low budget projects and that she’s ready to make a hundred more episodes with me.  Or least a full season or two…
i hope you will take 45 minutes out of your weekend to watch.  we have made the first two episodes available for streaming this weekend only – april 6th and 7th.  anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection can watch the episodes either from our distrify page, our website, and even our facebook page.  we are having a sneak peek weekend because we know most of you can’t make it to dinah shore weekend, where we are premiering on friday night.  we don’t know where or when we will make the episodes available again, so please catch us this weekend!  the reason for this is that we have not settled on a distribution model.  though going it alone is certainly an option that we may choose down the road, our collective experience has taught us that without some sort of outside support, going more than one season is extremely difficult.  we currently have 3 full episodes in the can, but we have many more seasons worth of stories to tell with these characters.
i’ve been singing this song for years, first with 3way, then again with we have to stop now and now with second shot.  we need your help to keep making this programming possible.  until i get a network or a billionaire backing me, it’s up to you to fulfill your end of this bargain and help us content creators to keep producing lesbian programming.  if you watch it and enjoy it, please tell your friends to stream it.  if you didn’t think it was funny, tell them to stream it anyway and pretend it was a drama.
i shared the cover page of the treatment for second shot, which was originally titled “dot’s hole.”  nancylee myatt and i sat down together exactly five years ago this spring and hashed out the treatment together.  it absolutely blows my mind to see the registration date – may 2008.  since then, nancylee has moved to new orleans, worked on a bunch of mainstream projects, produced two seasons of cowgirl up and is working on yet another series for the web, the n&n files.
dara nai, one of my we’re going nowhere cohorts, came back into the picture to lend (cause we sure didn’t pay her!) comedy writing genius as our head writer.
i have been on my own journey as well…but as it turns out, all roads led back to dot’s after all.  which is exactly what second shot is all about.
i hope you enjoy the show.  we look forward to your feedback.  below are all the possible places that you could watch it.
thank you again…
